Sampson

The Sampson family were English in origin. The parents and grand parents of our Mayflower ancestor lived at the village of Henlow in Bedfordshire. 

1. HENRY SAMPSON was baptized on January 15, 1604 at Henlow in Bedfordshire, England. When he was 16, Henry accompanied his uncle and aunt, Edward and Ann Tillley, on board the Mayflower that arrived at Plymouth Rock in December of 1620. Henry Sampson's uncle and aunt both died during that first severe winter at Plymouth but Henry survived. Henry was taken in by William Brewster and on February 6, 1635 he married Ann Plummer. They settled at North Plymouth which is now known as Duxbury. Ann (Plummer) Sampson died after 1688 and Henry died in 1685. Henry and Ann Sampson had nine children including a son:

2. JAMES SAMPSON was born about 1657 at Duxbury, Massachusetts. When he grew up James Sampson moved to Portsmouth, Rhode Island and he married a young widow, Hannah (Whitman) Wait. By 1682 they had moved to Dartmouth in Bristol County, Massachusetts. James Sampson died in 1718 and his wife died about 1724. James and Hannah Sampson had 7 children including a son:

3. JAMES SAMPSON Jr was born about 1680 at Portsmouth, Rhode Island . He grew up at Dartmouth, Massachusetts and he then moved to Wells, Maine. He married Ruth Sawyer about 1709 and they lived at Wells and later Arundel which is now know as Kennebunkport. James Sampson Jr died in the later 1750's and Ruth (Sawyer) Sampson died after 1762. James and Ruth Sampson had 8 children including a daughter:

4. HANNAH SAMPSON was born on October 3, 1710 at Wells, Maine. On July 16, 1728 she married John Sias Jr at Durham, New Hampshire. They lived at Durham and later Canterbury. After her husband died Hannah moved with her son to Danville, Vermont and she died there in February 1794.  John and Hannah Sias had 4 children (see Sias Family for descendants).
