BADGEROW

The Badgerow family is believed to be of French origin. The main theory has been that the family first came to French Canada and then came to this country at the time of the Revolutionary War. After the war the family settled in the Finger Lakes region of New York. The name was Americanized to Badgerow or Badgero which are the most common spellings. My grandfather shortened his surname to Badgrow after the Civil War.  Most of the Badgerow family moved to near Toronto, Canada between 1800 and the 1830. Some recent research suggests that the Badgerow family was living in the Hudson River valley of New York as early as 1736, 40 years before the Revolutionary War. This research also suggests that the Badgerow family were French Protestants.
